ACCEPTABLE KIBBLE "FOODS"
The path to healing and wellness does not come naturally to us in our fast-paced society. Sickness is an imbalance of the vital force which keeps all living beings alive. Symptoms of illness is the body attempting to rebalance and heal itself. The number one way you can help your animals achieve balance and health is by giving them a quality diet along with a few basic supplements.
The list below (current as of August 2000) identifies the kibble forms of "food" that have been found acceptable by many holistic veterinarians, if used along with real foods (meats, veggies, rice and barley.) If you are unable to convince your cats to eat real foods (mainly meats, as cats are solely carnivorous and have higher protein requirements than dogs), it is very important that they have a high quality canned food daily in addition to kibble. Cats fed solely on dry kibble are chronically dehydrated, as they simply don't drink enough water. This leads to many problems, especially urinary diseases. In the wild, cats obtain fluid from the prey animals they ingest. So, please give them 2 or 3 tsp. of canned food with warm water added twice a day. Pet Guard and Solid Gold are 2 of the companies on the list that I know of that have palatable canned cat foods. The supplements which I believe all companion animals should be on, along with a quality kibble that supplements a natural diet, are as follows:
"NuCat" or "Canine Plus" -- multiple vitamin/mineral/amino acid supplements from Vetriscience (at this time, these are the most complete, and most absorbable, vitamins I have discovered in my studies)
By doing simple dietary changes, most chronic illnesses (such as skin problems and ear infections) are resolved. When animals become seriously imbalanced over many years, often other therapies (different supplements and herbals for detoxification) are necessary. The key to long-term healing is patience. On average, it requires one month of quality diet for each year of your animal's life to see a balance of life force and health return to your animal's body
